About Us

  • The Frog & Flowers is a creative magazine edited, curated, and produced by students at Mulgrave School.

The Frog & Flowers showcases work from young, passionate creatives. Traditionally, this has been in the form of poetry, prose, and visual art compiled in issues emailed to the Mulgrave Upper School; our website aims to present a wider range of mediums from video games to film made accessible to our greater community. Our mission is to encourage expression and autonomy of artistic expression and to nourish student creativity and artistry.

In 2018, Henry Spencer & Irene Zhang founded the publication as an homage to beloved English Literature teacher Marlena Morgan. Ms Morgan dedicated herself to fostering new student writers; after her passing, The Frog & Flowers was created to honour her conviction that every student should have the opportunity for literary and visual artistic expression. The magazine’s title derives from key metaphors in her interactions with students: a representation of the beauty and autonomy of the human condition. It follows that the magazine aims to highlight these same things. By providing an avenue for the creation of art, The Frog & Flowers allows students to form connections through aesthetic experience.

  • Editors-in-Chief

Sofia Ferreira is a co-Editor-in-Chief of the Frog & Flowers literary magazine. Raised in a literary environment, she naturally gravitated towards studying English Literature & she joined the Frog & Flowers team in Grade 11 as a submissions editor. Alongside prose fiction and classic literature, Sofia also enjoys reading philosophical works and discussing (arguing with friends about) their contents.

Mei Lin is a senior at Mulgrave School, though she originally hails from Beijing, China. She has always considered herself a creative, whether it be acrylic painting, poetry, or playwriting. As the token ‘editor friend,’ she thrives on advising, translating, or adapting works. If given the opportunity, she can lecture for hours on end about Les Misérables or French Revolutionary history, interspersed with pictures of her cat, Cosette.

    Editors

Didi Zhuang is an editor of the Frog & Flowers magazine. Joining the team in Grade 10, Didi enjoys doing a bit of everything; whether it be composing, writing poetry, or even biology (to the dismay of many of their peers), they are often occupied doing ‘something.’ However, on rare occasions when Didi is not doing something, you may be able to find them in the corner eating a snack (Reese's Pieces).

Lily YangLiu is an editor of the Frog & Flowers magazine, joining the team in grade 10. She loves books, specifically rom-coms, and is also a fan of sitcoms. Some of her favorites include Brooklyn Nine-Nine, The Good Place, and Modern Family. She also has a borderline unhealthy addiction to sugar. When she’s not reading her favourite books for the thousandth time, binge-watching shows, or eating candy, she’s probably editing for her channel or dying because of Mandarin dictations.
