Im That Girl
Atria Zehtab

I’m that girl.
I’m that girl you called a loser,
I’m that girl you called fat,
I’m that girl trying not to think twice when you said my stomach isn’t flat.
I’m that girl with the tiny imperfections that you call ugly
when I should be thinking I’m beautiful; I love me.
Because words can hurt, they have the power to break me, and there are so many things concealed that you can’t see.
But I was born like a river, and I will never stop flowing. Your hurtful
words won’t stop me from growing.
You can’t control me, you can’t tear me down. Because I’ll get up and put back on my crown.
Because I was born to be brave
I was born to win
I was born to be powerful and have the thickest skin
I was born to believe, only in myself
I will never rely on anyone else.
I’m like a single bird flying in the night
and I pave my way because I’m my own flashlight.

I am not some object, I’m a talented girl
I can do anything as big as ruling the world.
You don’t know me.
You don’t know the things I can do.
I’m powerful, I'm confident I’m just like you.

So don’t tell me to stay home and be cleaning your plates.
Don’t tell me to be ladylike and stand up straight.
Don’t treat me less, treat me like one of you, because I’m strong, stand
tall and I’m like you too.

My opinion is valid.
What I say matters.
My words should be written in a thousand chapters.
Never tell me what I can or can’t say
for I will never change
I was simply born this way.
I’m that girl.
