The Edge of the Night
Gabriel Conejos

You stand upon and see the edge of night.
You take a step beyond and feel the call
As the light begins to fade from view to sight
And memories return before the fall.
You feel the quiet peace of torment’s end
As chains that once controlled your heart and soul
Are broken, shattered, and will never mend.
At last, you’re free. For once, you’re truly whole.
But then your eyes reveal the truth to you.
There is no falling past the edge of night.
The dark alone remains to take what’s true.
There’s nothing left except the final flight.
You wish you stood upon the edge of night,
But now reality is fading from your sight.
