Two Way Road
Gabriel Conejos

The path ahead of you has split
and the end is far from sight
There must be an answer,
it’s simple, left or right.

And yet you cannot take a step
Onto either path
‘cause they will lead to freedom
or to the forest’s wrath.

This moment is unmoving,
You have all the time you need
But you cannot choose a path
for this is just a seed.

A seed that grows and grows
until it comes to block the way.
When you have nowhere else to turn,
and no choice left but to pay

You learned all there was to know
before you left to find
the voices calling out to you,
the whispers in your mind

They are out there waiting
but refuse to lend a hand
they rudely will not tell you
how to navigate this land.

You cannot know the road ahead,
no road remains from where you are
The only way is through
Of that, at, least you’re sure

Time simply does not help
No matter how you plead
No answer comes to you
in this time of need

And so you simply take the step
and feel your troubles wash away
As hidden lights illuminate
the path for you today.

Perhaps it truly was because
you chose the better path
Or maybe there is more to it
then avoiding the forest’s wrath

When you reached your destination,
you turned to see how far you’d come
But saw instead the truth
behind the choice of zero-sum

There was another path
Hidden from your view
and yet the same in every way
and so you see what’s true.

You wondered once what might have been
if you simply went the other way
But in the end, it doesn’t matter
There is no price to pay.
