Drawing by B. Loeven

B. Loeven, unnamed, graphite on paper.

This piece aims to portray angelic beauty as a representation of the softness that can come from hard situations reflected in how stone carving can look like a weightless cloth. Based on traditional angelic sculptures, this work focusses on the angel as a symbol of light, hope, and guidance, but it also shows that as humans we have that same duality: hope and light balanced by struggle and burden.

B. Loeven is a Mulgrave alumna. Although she doesn’t study arts, choosing instead to focus on fuelling her passion for psychology, B. loves to draw outside of school for fun. She has done many sketches of human portraiture alongside her paintings :)
